Internship Review
How did you hear about/get it?
I found AJT online during my senior year of college. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do after graduation, and given the economy, there weren't many job opportunities that excited me. I started looking for more alternative options, and AJT first appealed to me as an opportunity to work for an international company abroad.
Daily tasks
With my internship with Time Out, my tasks ranged immensely from arranging appointments with clients, visiting restaurants and cafes to conduct photo-shoots and acquire information for reviews, editing my articles and photos, and a variety of tasks around the office.
Best part of the job?
This job was amazing. It allowed me to learn a ton about the magazine and tourism industries, while also getting me out into Buenos Aires meeting people, getting to know restaurants in various neighborhoods, and practicing Spanish.
Worst part of the Job?
Given the economy and the budget of the office, the magazines I worked for a bit tight on funds, cutting back on the scale of production. I only wish I could have become even more involved and taken on some more responsibility.
Additional Comments/Advice to others
i would highly recommend this internship to anyone interested in getting bi-lingual journalism experience with international companies.
I discovered the internship program in my spring semester of my senior year through my internship advisor. When I graduated, I decided to sign up and do the internship program in Argentina because I would be able to learn Spanish and work in a foreign country. I did not receive college credit, since I had already graduated, but it is possible to receive it if still in school.
Daily tasks
Article writing and online marketing for an online magazine and guide for foreigners living in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Best part of the job?
I got published online, taught myself online marketing and learned a ton of spanish. I am almost fluent.
Worst part of the Job?
Honestly, there was nothing bad about the experience.
Additional Comments/Advice to others
Americas Journalism Training is a full packaged internship program that provides students with lodging, spanish classes, an internship and an official tour of the city. Basically, it is a study abroad program focusing more on work experience and language education. It was one of the best internships I have ever had and it was great life experience.
